Riverdaughter's Daughter

Barosus is a merry frog in who lives by springs of water Like Bombadil of old he sings to the river’s daughter He wears no gaudy coat of blue, nor any boots of yellow But in the misty vale he dwells, a happy froggy fellow Of misty hills, of ponds and rills, and frogs in lily water Fairest sun and softest rain with skillful words he brought her Elm, and ash and poplar fair, all drink the river’s waters But fairest far of all the trees was oak's enchanted daughter And she delights to warm his heart, with acorn bells a ringing When moonlight gilds the tranquil vale, you can hear him singing So sing along, in jolly song, o polywogs a

Devious Celebration: 15 Years

On May 26th, in the early hours of the evening back in 2005, I first joined DeviantART. It feels surreal sometimes, having been active here so long. That said, it has been a subdued celebration for me this year, due to several reasons— but I wanted to take a few moments to cite and celebrate how much of a difference this community has made to me over the years. While many of my important memories have been previously shared on my 10 year celebration journal, (please disregard the huge, bold links on my older CSS), I take pride in my "adventures" here, and am beyond thankful for all of them. While this journal will not be as image extensive as my previous journal features, I did want to focus on some positive moments from my 15 years, while also highlighting a few new things that have brought me joy on DeviantART. :rose: Starting the relevant mental health awareness group, @GuidingLightProject with someone I am still honored to have been selected to work with, the dearest

The Silent Observer

Nobody could see her, nor could they hear the sound of her pencil, scratching as she wrote in her notebook. Her hair was whiter than the snow, her eyes bluer than the sky; there was not a single piece of clothing on her, she had no material possessions beyond her notebook and pen. The notebook was colored white at first, but with every word she wrote, it became a deeper and deeper shade of red. By the time she had gone through every page, it was the same red as what she had seen spill and spatter time after time. Blood. Deceit, corruption, greed. They were all responsible for lives being lost, and all acts of humankind. Whenever she witness

Walking with a Toddler

Slow he may be, plodding gentle his tiny legs. Each stick is a new exploration three steps to another.  “come on” you shout as he trots over gravel laughing delighted at the crunch-crunch beneath his feet and there and back again.  A dog bounds by, so much energy that it sparks fear in the little trekker as he clings to your leg, begging to be lifted. Arms wrapped around his world, he points at the sky, tells you its blue.

Scattered Faves

Hello, and welcome to my extremely sporadic list of faves. Just to reiterate, the idea of this is just a generalized review of your work. If you'd not like your piece featured here, feel free to PM me and I will take it down as soon as I'm able. As per usual, these are merely my thoughts on your pieces, if you have anything you'd like to add, subtract, or share regarding your thought process[es], feel free. Things are changing on DA, change is hard, change sucks. It has been hard for me to see the number of people I'm used to seeing on here dwindle, so in an effort to ameliorate this, and to try and appreciate the writing community regardless, this will likely be somewhat on the long side. Some of these will be slightly or very backdated, as I've been compiling faves and not featuring for a fairly long while. Without further ado: greenleo94 has a great way with words, especially in terms of emotional transference and vision; the structure he uses also carries high impact. I

Two Are One

As far back as he could remember, there had been two voices in his head. One was his own, his conscious, his inner thoughts. The other belonged to someone else. In his earliest memory of the other voice, he was sitting in his playroom, surrounded by colorful blocks. He was wearing overalls and a teddy bear T-shirt. The baby sitter was laying on the couch, giggling girlishly into the phone, simultaneously twirling her hair and the phone cord. “No, Mommy! Stop it, Mommy!” When he looked around, he couldn’t locate the screaming. But it bounced around his skull, pleading for help. Confused, he pounced on the sitter, sobbing and

The Finest Threads Unwoven

"Hey Danny, pass me that readout, would ya?" said Al, referring to the small USB flash drive plugged into the server. Danny obliged, saying "How many times are you gonna run the damn thing?" "As many times as it takes, kid," said Al, winking at the younger man before returning to his seat. He sat before a bank of computer monitors, each one displaying a slice of brain tissue in the scan from a different axis. These slices, when collated and computed into a connectome, could show the detailed structure of the brain, down to the level of a dendrite. As the scan required direct access to the brain tissue, and the radiation was somewhat destruc
